Our Teachers

Blue

Blue, a 1992 quarter-horse, is the senior member of the herd at HorseWorks. He spent his working life as a reining horse, and he also spent a lot of time camping and riding in the trails. He loves the special attention he receives in the EAL sessions – and will do anything for you once you convince him it is a good idea!

Hogan

Hogan is a 2003 Paint X, and he is the Boss in the field! He will make sure that all the other horses are where they should be, or not! He can move them around with the twitch of his ear or a sideways glance. When Hogan is not in charge of his herd he is actually, surprisingly perhaps, rather introverted and quite sensitive. He requires a calm and sensitive, assertive leader.

Stella

Stella is a 1998 Thoroughbred who spent most of her years in the Equine sport of Dressage. She is a beautiful mare who still loves to perform and please an audience. These days her audience consists of EAL participants, and she never fails to exceed their expectations.

Allie

Allie is a 1999, very agile, Arabian. She loves to run, and that tendency served her well in her Equine sport of Endurance. In her current career as an EAL horse she exhibits amazing tolerance with those of us that can send mixed messages in our communication.

Sakari

Sakari is a 2005 Tobiano Paint because of her black and white markings. Before she came to live with us at HorseWorks she had two babies, and one of them looks exactly like her! Sakari is 15 years old, and her current mission in life is to be adored. In her EAL work she shows us her huge personality and is very attentive to her team.

Kahlie

Kahlie is a 2016 Standardbred X, and she is in training to be an EAL horse. Once she gains lots more life experiences she will be a great addition to the EAL team.

Reba

Reba is a 2017 Arabian X, and she is also in training for the EAL program. She wishes she could join us in the arena now, but she definitely needs to be a spectator of the EAL sessions for a while yet!

Flash

Flash is a 2008 Paint with a smaller stature but a huge heart. He joined the herd in November 2022, and began his EAL career in February 2023. Flash is a great teacher of possibilities. The humans may think they have it figured out, and Flash will show us a different way. He has a great degree of patience and tolerance for EAL participants.

Buckskin

BUCK:  1996 – July 21, 2022
Buck was with us a short time at HorseWorks but he left his mark on everyone’s hearts. Buckskin was a 21 year old quarter horse who had some very exciting times in his life. In his younger days he was a competitive reining horse, but he also got to spend time herding cows, and even buffalo. As an EAL horse Buckskin proved to be a willing team player – he was curious and patient with our learning, and really just wanted to do the right thing.

Our People

Sarah

Certified EAL Facilitator

I grew up in Santa Cruz, Bolivia and had the privilege of being around horses from an early age. At first mostly small Bolivian horses and later the larger breeds used for show jumping. I rode competitively from the age of 11 to 17, but realized that competition was not really what motivated me. I was more intrigued by the relationship that I had developed with my lovely Argentine thoroughbred and the way that it seemed to soothe my soul. It was a space of acceptance for me. Since then, I have worked with Morgan horses, and I am now so excited to be part of the team at Horseworks, as are my three kids. I am looking forward to watching people grow through this program and experiencing what it is like to be part of something that has such an impact on an individual and personal level.

Certified EAL Facilitator Level 2
EAGALA Certification Level 1
Program Coordinator

My love of horses began around the age of 8 and they were an integral part of my life living on a beef cattle farm. In recent years my focus has been on riding and working in partnership with these beautiful animals. I have been a facilitator of EAL for 9 years and have also acquired a diploma in Social Services.

“Working alongside horses is a dream come true for me and I am often heard saying ‘this is the best job ever!’ I’ve always had a passion for working with people and for me, horses really complete the connection to spirit and self. I am constantly amazed at the power, beauty and grace the horses provide to people. This program and the horses continually leave me in awe, full of gratitude and amazed at the power of connection and healing the horses provide”.

Deb

Certified EAL Facilitator Level 2
Program Director

I have a formal education in Social Services and over 30 years of experience in the community providing various forms of support to individuals and families. I received my  EAL Certification at Cartier farms in 2018, and have not looked back!

My passion for horses started when I was very young. My parents thought they might solve this dilemma by getting me a stick pony, but that didn’t last for long. I begged and pleaded that I might have the real thing, and eventually that dream came true.  I loved to ride my horse through the prairie fields, but more than that I loved to just be with the horses. I still do. Now I am able to share this passion and my horses with others through the experience of Equine Assisted Learning.

Amy

My name is Amy. I have been overthinking my whole life how to work with horses in a meaningful way. Luckily, I met Deb and became certified as an equine assisted learning facilitator in September of 2022. It was exactly the job I was looking for.

When I am not enjoying my days up at HorseWorks, you can find me with friends and family, hiking or working in a microbiology lab.
